Photobucket

NH-JIPS’ very first Halloween dance was held on the 29th of October, Saturday.

All the guests showed off their creativity and Halloween spirit by dressing up as different characters and personas.

A Costume Contest was held to award students with the Best Costumes. The winners’ costumes were all spectacularly and stunningly unique!

The Best Couple Award was awarded to the best couple who slow-danced that night.

It was a magical night which cannot easily be forgotten. The first Halloween party held by NH-JIPS is also the first dance held by the school. That night did not just mark the students’ spirit for Halloween and dance, but also marked the beginning of a new path of creativity (and festivity –ed) for the whole school.

IPSLE 2010: The Results Are In!

Photobucket

The results are in!

The theatre was all abuzz 5 minutes before 12 nn, 04 November, as students who took the iPSLE eagerly awaited the results.

Photobucket

Photobucket

It was very exciting watching the students fidget in their seats. You can almost see their hearts pounding in worry and adrenaline: What did I get? The question seemed to hang in the air.

The ceremony started with all seriousness and all the pomp it warranted. Mr Wesley Bullock, Primary School Head, hosted the event. Mr Colin Pereira, our Principal, and Ms Daisy Yiu, Board of Management, were all in attendance. Teachers who assisted the examinees were also there to witness the event.

When the second hand ticked the last second and the students were called up to take their results, you could see how, one by one, they breathed easy again. The reactions were diverse and so telling! The excitement, the quiet acknowledgement of knowing how good they are, even the exagerated releases of breaths, let spectators see which ones knew they did well, which ones were glad to have the marks, which ones were surprised at the results!

It is quite universal, isn't it? The jitters we feel when we receive examination results. Universal and timeless. And the collective breaths of relief is a language all students understand. It says "I did it. I went through the fire. I will face what the fire wrought. I will own it!"

Congratulations to all the examinees for passing their iPSLE! Kudos to the organizers who worked hard from the time the students started preparing for the exam to the moment they took their results on stage. Well done, everyone!

For more information on the iPSLE, we've included a General Information Sheet below.

iPSLE (International Primary School Leaving Examination)

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Singapore international Primary School Examination (iPSLE) is the international version of Singapore's Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), an examination offered to all pupils at the end of Primary Education. The iPSLE was introduced in 2005 with the aims of providing certification and benchmarking for overseas schools, including those that have adopted the Singapore primary school curriculum. It provides a recognised certification of the knowledge and achievement that pupils have attained.

EXAMINATION ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Currently, iPSLE is offered to schools outside Singapore. There is no restriction on the maximum age for pupils taking iPSLE. However, pupils who intend to seek admission to secondary one in a Singapore school should note that they must be AT LEAST 12 years of age as at 1st January of the year of admission.

EXAMINATION SUBJECTS

The following subjects are available in the iPSLE: English Language, Mathematics, Science, Chinese Language, Malay Language and Tamil Language. Pupils may sit a maximum of 4 subjects.

RESULTS REPORTING

Examination results are usually released in November of the examination year.

Results will be reported in the form of subject grades:
A*, A, B, C, D, E

The overall performance of a pupil is reported in terms of an Aggregate Score. This aggregate score is derived from the T-scores
(i.e. Transformed Scores) in all the subjects sat, which must include the three subjects - English Language, Mathematics and Science.

EXAMINATION REGISTRATION

Candidates applying to sit the examination are to register with the approved overseas examination centres.

Information about subjects, examination formats and approved overseas examination centres is available at the SEAB website.

PIAGET Academy is the only Official Examination Center in Indonesia. We have centers in Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan, and Solo.

For more information, visit the SEAB official site.

Field Trips to Kidzania and Carrefour

Photobucket

field trip (n) - An educational trip in which a class visits a location away from school, such as a museum, zoo, or corporate facility.

Primary 1 Students Take Kidzania On!

Photobucket

Field trips are a necessary part of Modern Education. In short, it is learning beyond the boundaries of the classroom. The visit to Kidzania offered our little ones a chance to experience the different occupations in a contrived environment, thus helping them to link the real world to a unit that they studied on "Jobs People Do."

Carrefour and the Primary 4 Consumers (and Entrepreneurs!)

Photobucket

Last 28th of July, the Primary Four students went to Carrefour at ITC Permata Hijau and experienced buying items themselves.

The objective of the activity was to test if the students could apply the lesson on "Rounding Off and Estimation". With this activity, they saw the importance of the lesson in real life application.

The students had a lot of fun and enjoyed buying food with only a limited amount of time and money. They bought items and considered the prices and the expiration dates of the items.

Photobucket

Photobucket

After buying the items, they accounted the prices and sold them with some profit. This second part of the actvity was a short experiential lesson on being business savvy.

Photobucket

It was a good learning experience for the kids!

The Indonesian Youth Pledge, The Soccer Match and October Birthday Celebrations

A beautiful performance about a special day in Indonesian history: the first performance of the Indonesian National Anthem. It was first played on a violin by Wage Rudolf Supratman, a young reporter who was reporting on the first Indonesian Youth Congress. 1928 was definitely a special year for Indonesia.

Our students re-enacted this special day through a performance by Secondary Students.

Our Primary 4M students sang a special song in honor of the occassion, while Gillian of P6K read a poem in Bahasa Indonesia.

It was quite an emotional moment for some. Love for one's country this inspiring and tangible is sure to echo in some hearts.
